Thanks, so there is no solution to the handoff problem when you are in access mode? Is there another extender, IPHONE fix, or app that will resolve this problem? It works a lot better in access mode with ethernet connection, but it will stay on the weaker signal until you manually change it. My router is in the basement and my extender is on the 1st floor..I had it on extender mode, but wasn't getting a great signal to my 2nd floor or out on my deck. When I switched it to access mode the signal strength is better and I am getting faster speeds, plus I have the option to use a wired connection on my laptop when needed.

there are some apps out there that you can program that automatically forces a phone to change from one network to the next based on your own rssi strengths. But they take some skills to setup.
If you want simple setups with roaming and multiple access points, then you'd need to move to a full mesh system like netgear orbi that supports wireless or wired backhauls.
