From what I can tell, that is the Altice one from optimum. Seems to have some issues being an all integrated solution. I'd check with optimum to see if their box needs any specific settings to add an extender to it.

I'd also make sure to do the setup for the extender in the same room. Once you have the setup done, you can move it to a different area. Have you tried to hardwire into the extender and manually setting up the extender?
I'll definitely check with them to make sure that nothing extra needs to be done and i id the set-up all correctly with it in the same room, i didnt do the hardwire to extender set up, does it make much of a difference?
some people have better luck doing setup over a hardwired connection.
