Hello davidtkhayes - Would you mind providing us with the firmware version the extender is on along with the LED light status of the extender. Check out page 8 of the user manual linked below for the LED light status indicators.

2.4Ghz Link Rate LED - Green
5Ghz light is out (I did not configure the 5G part in setup but have tried with it on and off)
Device to Extender LED is Green
LAN LED 2 is Green (Plugged into my computer)
USB LEDs are off, nothing plugged into them

I worked with Netgear telephone support (thanks) for the past few days and it appears that this extender simply does not qwork with the hotel Wifi. The Hotel and other businesses use something called captive portal, in essence requiring further prompting to connect, usually within a web browser and that is not supported by the Netgear home products.
I returned the unit to the store, searching for a product that does work, no luck yet.
