There's the occassional Netgear moderator on here.
1. what router are you connected to?
2. How much area are you trying to cover?
3. How much wireless interference is there? (how many networks if you do a scan)
4. What housing materials is your house made of? plaster lathe, concrete, brick, foil lined insulation, hvac all do a great job of blocking signals.
5. how long is the connection down for?
6. what speeds are you paying for?
7. What speeds are you getting?
8. Modem you're using?

The 1.0.1.80 firmware released this summer was certainly better than the one from almost one year ago. There was some more work ongoing to address problems with the dynamic key rotation since. If you can, you might want to disable the key rotation on your wireless router for the moment. Unfortunately Netgear seems to have very limited engineering resources, it was said that this update should become available end of September/early October.
