It would help because it would show if there's an issue with the radio in the extender or not. If it works, the radio's working.
If it doesn't, potentially the radio went bad. Then you'd want to go through support for replacment.
FYI, don't google for support #. You'd click mynetgear at the top, register an account and the device. From there you can contact support/start an RMA. Problem with googling is that it gives out con/scam site numbers.
