extender as AV2
hi, I have WN3100 rp which I use as a wifi extender but it's not always great and can be interrrupted. I was wondering if I connected to the device via the ethernet socket on the side and got a second WN3100 rp extender to connect to the router also by ethernet, would that work like an AV2 to improve the signal? Or do I have to get a specific AV2 system?

Access Point and Extender modes are both similar in that they provide a Wi-Fi signal for nearby devices to use. The difference is that extender mode must also use Wi-Fi to communicate with the router. Wi-Fi speeds in extender mode can be 50% slower than Access Point mode.

Netgear generally recommends not connecting one extender to another extender wirelessly, but this may be an exception. When one of the extenders is wired to the router, it may be acceptable. The WN3100RP needs to be set to Access Point mode before it can be wired to the router.
I haven't tried connecting two extenders together in this manner. Unless someone else can confirm that this works, you may want to buy the second WN3100RP that has a good return policy in case it doesn't work.
hi, okay, it's been a while, but I tried this idea of connecting two extenders via Access mode, and it didnt produce much that I could see. I think it's beyond my brain power to make this work.
What I also don't quite get is the difference between Access and Extender modes. Netgear says Access boosts the wifi signal, but isnt that also what an wifi Extender mode does? Not sure why one would opt for Access and in what circumstances compared with Extender.
Also, when I connect a laptop directly into a netgear wifi extender via the ethernet port even if I set it up using the Extender mode, it appears to improve the signal. I wonder why that is too.
Clearly I am not very techy.
