Extender vs Router upgrade

Appears my initial query 'repeated'/duplicated....irregardless, appreciate the advice.
Would appreciate your opinion/advice further: if my router is determined to be the
problem I'm having with my constant intermittent connection (meaning it's NOT my
modem or cable so I toss my current router) what you think best for my home/setup:
Just buy much more powerful router? Same router with extender? New group set?
Final (and most optimistic) option, current router NOT the issue...but add extender??

If the issue is intermittent connectivity, it would be best to further isolate the cause of issue.
1. Is signal strength an issue (are there dead spots) where your devices are being used?
2. Is the Internet connection stable when wired to the router and/or modem?
3. Is Internet speed an issue with any of your devices (not getting advertised speed from ISP)?
4. What is your subscription speed?

it worked!! okay, once again; thanks StephenB & DexterJB for concern/assistance;
Before replying immediately, wanted to replace Spectrum modem (got same Hitron)
and test speeds (95.7 down+11.4 up @ 3:55pm) and 'troubleshoot' per instructions
on Spectrum.com. New horse (modem), old saddle (router), same ride (lights blink).
Not sure mentioned before: this Hitronic E31N2V1 doesn't blink like the other 5-6
modems I've received from Spectrum...only 2 lights "Power"+"Online" - neither blink.
Long ago I also discovered 2.4 ghz 'spread' much further/evenly thru house than 5?

5 Ghz has shorter range than 2.4 ghz, but is faster when you are close.

btw: obviously tech-challenged, but since I'm a 'car-guy', auto-analogies are more likely
to resonate in the cavern above my neck. Explains why keep asking questions about 'age'.
A 2018 Camry may look/feel/drive the same as a 2014; but they made mechanical upgrades
to the engine/transmission/chassis each model year...no matter how minimal or even visible.
