Hey thanks a lot for replying Plemans, currently have a five year old (pretty much the latest, as they've been discontinued) Airport Extreme handling wireless duty, feeding to three Airport Expresses (latest models), with the Extreme attached to my Netgear R6400, with its wifi switched off. The Netgear 7700 mesh wifi extender has pretty good reviews, isn't too expensive, and I guess may be worth a try to replace all the airport units, as they're a bit old now, and the range could be better...if there was a different extender to try, I might go for that..
Thanks again

The airport express is an older dual band wireless n device. There wasn't a huge change in broadcast strength in the transition from wireless n to wireless AC but the processor/capabilities of the EX7700 are a significant upgrade. You might be able to replace with a single EX7700. Worth a shot in the upgrade.
