Failed to login EX8000 Mesh Extender

Hi,

I bought the EX8000 (X6S) mesh extender to extend the signal of my existing D-Link DIR850L AC1200 Dual Band Gigabit Router. I set up the extender by connecting to the default SSID of the extender, entered my router's information (like the SSID and passphrase for 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections) and completed setup. Both the mesh extender and my router have the same SSID.

I can confirm that the setup has been done and the mesh is somewhat working, because all LEDs on the extender (except USB and LAN) are lit in white, and in rooms where I originally had poor signals now got very strong signals.

However, while I am connected wirelessly (I tried 2.4GHz and 5GHz) I cannot access the login page of the extender. I have tried (1) http://mywifiext.local and http://mywifiext on both iPhone (Safari) and Windows 10 notebook (Edge Dev and Firefox), (2) looked up for the IP address of the extender (but cannot find one) in my router status page, and (3) the default IP 192.168.1.250.

Not sure if related, the default gateway is 192.168.0.x, instead of 192.168.1.x.

How can I access the login page of the extender? Do I need to set a static IP for the extender?

Thanks in advance.

I'd reset it (so you can access it) and then set a static ip address within the range of your router's ip range. Probably be the fastest way to fix it.

    https://www.netgear.com/support/product/EX8000.aspx

Page 32 of the manual walks you through setting a static ip address.

Thanks, will try it when I get home. Is there no need to tinker with the DHCP settings in router?

You'll need to refer to you  D-Link DIR850L manual for assigning a static route within the router.

Or did you mean these two steps?

      1. Resetting it so that i can access it (which worked)

      2. After that, setting static IP

        Little of both.

I like to set address reservations or static ip addresses for extenders, printers, IoT devices, etc.  The only ones I leave dynamic are those devices that relocate/move around.
