Help with AC2300 R7000p near-dead zone
Hi, I need help eliminating a near-dead zone in my house and not sure if I should use repeater, extender, mesh extender, or 2nd router. I am currently using a Nighthawk AC2300 R7000P for ethernet ...
where I'd start? By moving the router itself. Basements tend to be bad for having a router because of all the hvac/wiring/etc between the floors. You could move the router by hooking that ethernet cord directly to the modem and moving the router to where the pc is. Then you can hook the pc to the router. See if moving it helps as if you can centrally locate a router, they perform better.
if it doesn't, you can always try going the router of an extender or buying a cheap router and running in in AP (access point) mode.
Thanks. I guess I should have added a little more information. Right now, I am a little hesitant to move the main router because it's also got ethernet connections to smart tv, apple tv, and PS4 in an attempt to improve streaming and gaming. Ideally I would have put it on the 1st floor but there was 1 existing run from 2nd floor to basement and with finished walls/basement and no direct runs between floors, i thought it was easier to push the basement devices and hope for the best with wifi elsewhere.
do you (or anyone else) have a recommendation for extender that works with the Ac2300 R7000P? Thanks!
- I would look at any of the triband extends. They reduce the bandwidth hit you take from a standard extender
