You could go several routes.
1. get a router and run it in access point mode. that'd give you a backup router if you ever needed on
2. you can just go with an access point. they work well but some don't have a router mode.
3. you could use a wireless extender. Either in extender mode or in access point mode.
4. you could upgrade to a mesh system. You could put the cox router in modem only mode and use the mesh system to both provide better coverage and more connections.
