How to MESH access points using a wired CAT6 ethernet backbone

Hello World,

I'm a tech savy person with a computer science degree... but I've been out of the techworld for a while... and all my current hardware is woefully over due for a tech refresh. (barely 10 base in some cases, LOL)

I have/am running Cat6 cable backbone in most rooms primarily for IP Cameras and lag free HD gaming.  I prefer the stability and speed of a CAT6 good wire and a gigabit switch with POE injectors as needed.  That said, I would like to leverage the speed of the CAT6 wires with the convenience of wi-fi MESH.... ie single/seamless SSID.

This is a pre-purchase inquiry, so all hardware options are on the table, but prefere not to get too crazy expensive.  Current and preferred ISP is Xfinity.  Currently using thier top COAX modem.

The Question:

What hardward do I need to purchase to implement a fast Wi-Fi MESH (single SSID) using a CAT6 backbone?  Meaning no requirement to reconfigure my wireless devices as move across my property (from one wi-fi transmitter/transceiver)   Please assume that some (but not all) satellite wi-fi transmitters/transceivers may be completely out of wireless range of the adjacent wi-fi transmitters/transceivers. (would be connected by CAT6 on a common subnet)

Thanks World!

There are a couple of options here.

    • An Orbi mesh system.
    • Mesh extenders
    • Commercial-grade access points (which could use your PoE).

Can you give us some idea of the coverage area (total square feet, number of floors, whether construction is wood, brick, concrete, etc)?  That will help narrow down the choices.
