Mechanical Factory Reset of Netgear Range Extender - powere on or off?

I need to do a mechanical factory reset of my EX2700 range extender in order to use it at a different location with a different router (I can't do this through a webrowser as I can't remember either the user name or password I set it up with approximately 10 years ago). The manual says to insert a straightened paper clip for 7 seconds then remove it. I did this with the EX2700 powered off, but it hasn't reset. Does that mean the EX2700 should be powered on when I do it? Somehow, using my bare fingers to insert a piece of metal into something that has (in the UK anyway) 240 volts coursing through it, goes against my natural instincts.

  • Yes, while its powered on.

so plug it in to power it on. Let it fully boot. then depress the reset button. its usually 7-15 seconds. The lights should change when its held long enough.

If you're concerned about a paper clip, use a toothpick. I've done it quire frequently while testing devices and never been shocked.
