A couple.
1. install it using the installation assistant and not using wps. Wps can get coded differently between device manufacturers. Which is why there's also the installation assistant. Try factory resetting the extender and running it.
2. You won't see a "performance" improvement but you can see a dead spot or extended range improvement. The reason why is based on the very nature of how extenders work. The standard dual band extenders have to send and receive using the same wireless chip. And they can't do both at once. So they automatically take a 50% speed hit right from the start. The tri-band extenders mitigate this speed hit because they reserver 1 of the 5ghz chips just for router---extender communication.
So an extender might give you faster speeds but its only going to be at a distance or in deadspots.
