Mesh network recommendation
I upgraded to a C7800 Nighthawk cable modum/router and have been having diffuculty getting a good wifi signal to one area of my house. I added a Netgear extender which helped a little bit, but still ...

Thank you for all you guidance through this process. I such I now know what I need to do! I will shop for the tri-band, as recommended.

Either route prevents a double nat situation. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
I'd recommend the tri-band orbi kits. They have a couple dual band kits but I haven't been impressed with them. The tri-bands reserve 1 of the 5ghz bands just for router----satellite connection and tend to have faster speeds/stability.

Thanks for responding to my inquiry.
-I am supposedly paying for 100 mbps
-I am getting 17-19 mbps download and around 5-6 upload with my C7800
-House is two-story 4500 sq. foot wood frame home with drywall.
-I haven't picked out a specific Orbi kit, as of yet and I will mention that I am not that well versed in wifi networks.

What speeds do you get with the c7800?
How big is your home?
What are the interior walls made of (certain materials block wifi better)
What orbi kit are you looking at.

-I am supposedly paying for 100 mbps---the goal is first to get the C7800 to that speed hardwired. It has a great modem in it so it shouldn't have any issues hitting 100mbps (or even 1000mbps) if working properly on a good line.
-I am getting 17-19 mbps download and around 5-6 upload with my C7800----is that hardwired into the C7800 or wireless? if wireless, what device and band are you testing on?
-House is two-story 4500 sq. foot wood frame home with drywall.---thats a sizeable home. I'd recommend at least a 3 orbi kit if you go with orbi AC and not AX.

Do you have a screen snip of your cable connections page?

The test was wireless from my laptop. I went to my carriers test site and did the speed test on the 2.4GHz band. I don't have a snip of my cable connections page and I am not sure how to find it.

Wireless will never be as fast as wired. Especially 2.4ghz. Its a much slower band and has more interference.
Try testing on the 5ghz as well as hardwired. We first need to ensure you're getting the full speeds at the router/modem.
But again, I'd stress that the 2.4ghz isn't going to be fast. In my area, due to congestion, i'm lucky to maintain a 30-40mbps over 2.4ghz. Versus 5ghz I can routinely hit >300mbps wireless.

Wired to the modem I am getting 101 Mbps download and 5.5 upload. Interestingly on the 5 Ghz band I get 80 Mbps download and 5.4 upload. Seems to me the router/modem is working as expected. So I guess I need the Orbi AC.
