Netgear AC1200 Wifi Range Extender (EX6150v2) keeps disconnecting

I recently bought this AC1200 Wifi Range Extender Model EX6150v2

I installed it yesterday using the Netgear Installation Assistant. 
Ever since yesterday I will be on the 5ghz on the extender and it will randomly disconnect me. 
Usually you would just try to reconnect right after, except that it takes me maybe 3-5 mins to reconnect. 
Sometimes I can't even connect to my router because of it, This has been happening since yesterday.
I updated the firmware today, but now every so often I will disconnect, have to reconnect to my router and then mayb in 3-5mins I can connect again.

Why is this an issue?|
I paid $116 for this product and it is unreturnable to Staples.
