The chances of getting a Netgear device to work with a Mesh system from another brand are next to zero. You can't even connect different models fo Netgear Mesh satellites.
We don't know what model your Netgear device is. AX1600 is not a reliable guide to model number. Many devices come with an AX tag, but it is essentially a label that Netgear, and other brands, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds.
Look at the label on the device for the model number.
If it is a wifi extender, then you'll need to ask TP-Link for advice on how to add things to its network. But don't expect it to join the Mesh network.

The mesh extenders default setup mode is "mesh".
Meaning if you hit the wps button on both, it'll have the same ssid as the tp-link.
What are the led's on it doing?
If you want it setup separate, factory reset it and use the installation assistant.
To factory reset, push and hold the reset button for 7-15 seconds while powered on.
Here's a video of how to use the assistant.
