NETGEAR Community Web Site Problems

It is exceedingly shortsighted to have such a very limited selection of locatons.  For instance, this subject has no appropriate category.

Worse yet, the options for labels are misplaced and incorrect.

The labels are marked as required because of the asterisk, but they are placed after the Post button.  Whose idea was that?  Find that person and fire them.

Then the available labels will not work in the labels field.  See attached screenshot.  Maybe the same person made that mistake as well.

I notice that the issue of poor web site and interface design is the one major issue with the Netgear corporaton across the board, and these things need immediate attention.

  • I should point out that the post addressed by the screenshot could not be posted because of the items selected, even though the items were from the list of suggestions.

Complete the opposite IMHO. Far to many, hard to find, unlucky split into Connected Home and Business Solutions, ... there are indeed far to many posts around under the wrong category. Once upon a time, there was one for community issues - now gone (resp hidden/no access).

The labels section is placed OK IMHO, it's a floating frame to the right. Much more, these labels are completely useless - a feature to be abandoned, just a pain in the back when posting.

The labels should have comma delimiters, when clicking them together these are added automatically - otherwise no posting possible.

But as I said, a "feature" to get rid of. ChristineT

With all due respect my friend, when using a 1024x768 resolution in the year 2020 such issues are predictable - it's a relict of the past. Very unlikely anything will change for you.

For my part, I would like to know why "my" screen space is so baldy used - the real information is just about 25% of the available width. Web design from the early years of this century. Oh and thanks to the full screen Apple designer generation massively oversized fonts are in place.

      Hello schumaku and slow_speed ,

Your feedback and comments are noted! We are currently in the planning stages of what things to consider if/when a redesign project is scheduled. We are looking to make some improvements in the more short term and ensure we take your feedback into account.

      Best Regards,

      Christine

Forget trying to redesign.  Netgear obviously cannot handle the job.  Creating a patch of a broken system never, ever works.  Simple go with a known resourse, and there are plenty of them out there.  Just one example is Simple Machines Forum, which is ten times better than what you have, and there are no limitations as we experience here.

Really?  Well consider that I have a GS510LTP and it is a smart managed switch.  Now exactly where in this listing would that be found?  Right, it isn't there.  Stupid and worthless list.  The categorization remains indefensible.  All your posts just supports my position.

The fact of the matter is that this is an attempt to re-invent the forum and it is a sad failure.

(I even tried to quote and it wouldn't let me insert my text.  That indicates a poor editor.  Imagine an editor that scrolls from top to bottom and then jumps to top again.  Talk about bizarre.)

And no, the labels are not a floating frame to the right.  They move depending on zoom level.  Another dumb design idea.

And comma deliminator instead of spacing?  Why isn't that described or automatically added if necessary?  Yet another dumb idea.

A 1024x768 resolution is not a relic of the past.  You obviously don't know what you're talking about.    All resolutions are useful in their place.  If content does not conform, it is not properly designed.

And just for the cherry on top of the cake, I clicked on your screenshot and got a pop-up window.  It gave me the option to expand it.  When I did that, the exit button fails to work.  It must be normalized first.  But even more unbelievable, the screenshot cannot be opened again without reloading the web page!  Talk about even more bizarre!

This just doesn't work, and I'm not surprised.  Nobody at Netgear knows how to program for home theatre presentation.

All switches except of the gaming ones are under Business (told ya it's not great, eh?).

Why on earth was the community section titled "Smart Plus And Smart Pro Managed Switches Forum"? I don't know. Formal designation for these product lines are "Smart Managed Plus" and "Smart Managed Pro" ... "Forum" can go anyway (or has to be added everywhere) ... let the community admins make it "Smart Managed Plus and Smart Managed Pro" - without detroying the links and references to the URL https://community.netgear.com/t5/Smart-Plus-and-Smart-Pro-Managed/bd-p/business-smart-plus-click-switches

        Subtitle is worked, too.

"Discuss Smart Pro Switches "T", and Plus Switches "E" including Local and Remote Management" should be "Discuss Smart Managed Pro "T", and [Smart Managed] Plus "E" swiches including Local and Remote Management"

Don't blame the messenger - these are text snippets from my earlier attempt to wake up Netgear.
