Thank you for your response. That makes sense.
The obvious question: Why would it stay at "best" for most of the time and just seemingly randomly drop to "poor" or even disconnect?
Would enabling Fastlane on this device help this situation?

That isn't clear to me either. A few questions-
- What device is this?
- Is it connected with WiFi or ethernet?
- how far away is it?
- Was the device moved around the time the connection dropped?
- Did some source of interference (electric motor, microwave, etc) become active around the time the connection dropped?

FastLane dedicates a radio to the router->extender wifi. It wouldn't directly help.
5 ghz has faster speed than 2.4 ghz, but shorter range. If the client device is using 5 ghz, then it is possible that it is on the edge of the range. Switching the client to 2.4 ghz could help. So if the client isn't that close to the extender, you could try disabling the 5 ghz radio as a test, and see the connection becomes more stable.

Though 30 feet might be on the edge for 5 Ghz, especially if there are some barriers along the path. So you could try either disabling 5 Ghz or enabling fastlane on the 2.4 ghz radio.
