Netgear extender
Need to attach Netgear ext to a non-Netgear modem

Strictly follow the Installation Guide available from https://www.netgear.com/support/product/WN3000RPv2.aspx#docs - there is no Netgear router required.
Note: Real (cable-)odems don't have neither router functionality or an on-board wireless access point. These would be cable modem/router combo devices.
