I have done it and my extender is working great!
I can't thank you enough for all your patience and helping this old lady that always preached "If it does work, stop, restart everything and try again". I needed you to point that out to me, which I will try and remember in the future.
I don't know why you are this community sight, but again thank you for you help.:womanwink:

2. What firmware is on the extender?-----If you log into the extend. the status page will have the firmware its on. I can't long into the extender. If I could I probably would'nt have my problem.
3. Have you tried using the installation wizard and not wps? Yes
4. have you tried hardwiring your desktop or a laptop to the extender for setup? it tends to make things go smoother. if you do, just make sure to shut off the wifi on the device you're hardwiring into the extender. Yes but was to confusing for me. I am definitely not a pro at this. i am a 68 year old who started on computers and not intimidated usually but this has me baffled.
i do appreciate your help.
Did you try the wps install method? I usually recommend using the manual install guide but maybe the wps would work. Yes I have tried WPS method.
I have found a wifi connection called Netgear42 and tried connecting it. it would not take my wifi password. If this is the connection I need is there a special password?
So you put you can't log into the extender to check firmware but yet you put you used the smart installation wizard. You have to log onto the extender to run the wizard.....?
try resetting the extender back to stock. push and hold reset for 7-15 seconds. get it back to stock. Then connect to the extender and follow the installation guide. where does it fail? what goes wrong/
