Thank you for the prompt and valuable response. So I was thinking of putting my router in my home office on the first floor, getting the NetgearTri-Band WiFi Mesh Range Extender EX7500 and putting it on the 2nd floor where my home entertianment is (TV, Xbox). The third floor is just two bedrooms so that can be the weakest spot.
What do you think of this idea? My understanding is that in theory with the tri-band EX7500 there should be no speed drop-off between the 1st and 2nd floor.
Thanks.

If you're literally putting it in the same entertainment center as the tv/xbox, I'd spring the extra $ for the EX7700 or EX8000. They have ethernet ports to directly connect the xbox/tv. It'll help reduce the latency as well.
It *should* work. I say should because everyones home is different and things can impact performance/speeds.
Don't expect to get the exact same speeds as you do at the router as you'll lose speed with distance regardless of what setup you choose.
You won't lose nearly as much speed as you would with a single/dual band extender though.
