Nighthawk X4 |AC2200 WiFi Range Extender open networks...

Good morning all,

     I have tried searching through the forum, and have found nothing related. I purchased and setup the AC2200 last night. Install seemed to go smoothly using the wps function. Signal strength seems good, and my devices all see the (2) new networks created. Problem is, that the (2) networks created are not named as they should be (per instructions), and they are open (unsecured)... I cannot figure out how to secure them, and when I used the www.mywifiext.net to look at the device, it offered a firmware update (which of course i did), and now it does not seem that I can connect to it via my iphone. I have spent a couple of hours messing with this thing, and becoming increasingly disapointed (and frustrated). If anyone can help, thanks in advance.
