Don't try that solution. You might get it working but its going to be sketchy and more headache than worth it.
What I'd do is they make point to point systems that do the same thing. Netgear used to sell Airbridge that did that but its been out of stock for a while. Do a quick search on amazon for a point to point system and you should find plenty. I'd pickup one that meets your needs and then just use the R7000 as an access point in the garage connected to the point to point system (as they are just a dedicated connection between the 2x devices).
