Powerline 500 WiFi AccessPoint (Model XWN5001), Do I need 2 of these to work?

Do I need 2 of these to work to provide wireless and/or LAN coverage? I have "one" of these connected to my netgear router and am able to use the Netgear Powerline Utility application to view the AccessPoint. However my smartphone is not able to connect to it, it says "connected, but no internet access". From reading info on the Netgear web site it appears that at least 2 of these are needed to work...
