Question about WN2000RPT

Hello all, I am new to this forum. I have been reading and found a ton of information on this device. It has helped me get my network up and running, partially.

I have a Belkin N300 router with 2 Windows XP comps hardwired. I have another XP, a Vista, and 2 Windows 7 comps connected wireless. My problem is that I have a large house and the Belkin doesn't cover all of it. I purchased the WN200RPT and set-up was quick and simple. However, I had the same problem as most everyone else. My connection would drop after a while and I would have to reboot the WN2000RPT. After reading on these forums, I made some tweaks and my system has been up and running for weeks.

Here lies the problem I have now. I have a printer connected to the wireless XP comp and have it set up as a network printer. This computer also has an external hard drive connected as a network drive. Some of the computers can see the printer and drive, and some of them can't. I have no idea how to fix this. I get great signal and internet connection on all the computers. I thought about giving the WN2000RPT a static IP, the same SSID as my router, and turning off the DHCP to let the router give all the IP adresses. Then give the comp with the printer and hard drive a static IP as well. Will this work, or does someone have an easier solution.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • not clear but does the pc behind the main router to pc that has printer connect to extender is an issues with sharing?
  • I don't think it's a computer issue because other computers can see the printer and can print from it. The problem mostly lies in the Vista computer. For some reason, it cannot find the computer with the printer on the network. A couple of the other computers every now and then will "lose" the printer, but a quick reboot will fix this problem. All except the Vista. Thats why I was wondering if I assign static IP's to where its always the same, maybe that would fix the issue.
  • I did not say computer was the problem.. I said IF issues is REACHING the PC w/ printer hook that is BEHIND the extender where other PC are connected to main router causes the connection issues. Also mean if all was behind the main router and bypass the extender if all works fine
  • Ok, I see what your saying now. The XP machine with the printer and drive, as well as the Vista computer, are both connected to the extender. But, the other computers connected to the main router can see and print to this computer. The Vista is the only one I can't get to work properly. I even made sure the workgroup name was the same for all the machines.
  • quick test is to place behind the main router and test.. if still does not work then you know its vista computer that has either firewall on PC side could have preventing it
