Depending on what you want to do, you could look into powerline devices that double as access points.
Remember, there are several ways of extending your wifi. One is to have a box that listens to the wifi from the wgr614v9 and repeats what is "hears".
The other way is to wire a box to the wgr614v9 to act as its own separate wifi source.
The second way gets rid of the need for a wifi-to-wifi link that may be open to interference. The second way needs a wire to run around the place.
Powerline gets rid of that physical connection by using your mains circuit instead of a wire. It also adds a wired LAN connection that you can use for something like a smart TV.
By the way, the wgr614v9 is now nearly 10 years old. Very much yesterday's technology. It doesn't even do 5GHz wifi. Its LAN sockets are also much slower than modern stuff.

I still say a new router is the best bet it would solve many problems. The router you would need depends on what you want to do with it and future plans for your networks. The router you have is very old and out dated.
