Knowing nothing about Xfinity WiFi (and far away from any Xfinity WiFi hotspot in Switzerland), I've done some reading on http://wifi.xfinity.com/connect-devices.php
In my understanding there are (or can be) two different SSID (network names) serving Xfinity WiFi hotspot:
1. xfinitywifi - this wireless requires requires an authentication using a username and password to associate, the security credentials are exchanged automatically between the WiFi client and the access point. There is no preshared key as common, much more this similar to business class wireless. Associating any kind of WiFi extender is typically impossible, because of a) extenders don't support business WiFi supplicants, and b) even if there would be a supplicant, the security details are not available to connect to the extender-served xfinitywifi network.
2. XFINITY - this is a non-secure (non-encrypted) network. Extending this should be possible. All the WiFi clients connected then to the extended network however needs to authenticate in the Xfinity WiFi captive portal.
