WIFI EXTENDER ETHERNET

When i connect my computer to my wifi extender via ethernet i get only 100-200mbps but i have VERIZON GIGABIT internet connection and my router can handle up to 700mbps can someone please explain to me why that is

    I'm from India I'm using Netgear since last one year. my model is WNR 614 N300 2.4 GHz

    recently I found that wi-fi is disconnecting frequently. i don't know why it's happening.
    I checked with ISP, ISP side there is no issues.
    I'm getting 75 Mbps.

    If I'm using my PC, like this happens.
    I'll check with my mobile phone but it's connected to the wi-fi.
    Can anyone know what's the issue let me know

    A couple things to go over. 

    Standard extenders by their very nature drop throughput by 50% of what they're receiving (not tribande extenders). Reason why is they have to receive and then retransmit data. And they can't do both at once. So even if you place it right next to the router that you get 700mbps from, the best you'd expect would be half that. But the EX6120 can't do that as its a 866mpbs link speed and thats link speed, not throughput. Throughput is roughly 55-65% of link speed due to network overhead.  Plus start adding in moving an extender further away from the router and obstructions due to distance, and your speed is going to drop off even more because its cutting the 50% based off what actual speed its getting from where its located. 

    so to go over.

    1. extenders cut speed 50% of what the extender recieves

    2. link speed isn't the same as throughput speed. Max link speed on ex6120 is 866mbps. 

    3. distance/obstruction causes slowdowns as well 

     

     

    the caveate to that is the triband extenders. They have a 2nd 5ghz chip just for router---extender communication. so they don't take the same 50% speed hit. But they're dedicated 5ghz. 5ghz by its very nature doesn't transmit as far or through as much materials as 2.4ghz. But its much faster than 2.4ghz. By a significant margin. 

     

    Extenders are great devices if there is dead areas or areas that just need a little extra reach. They aren't full mesh networks (even the mesh extenders) and aren't going to give you fast speeds. But they will cover dead spots or extend reach.
