WiFi network extension
I have a typical network in our home with a router and modem that is supplied by a provider. We have 3 computers, and a variety of smart devices and security cameras. I would like to extend my network so that the WiFi signal is a bit stronger on the second floor of our home as the router and modem are in a closet on the first floor. What is the best and most reasonably priced way to accomplish this? Add a second router on the second floor or purchase a WiFi extender for the second floor? Whatever I purchase, I would like the device to have at least 3 ports for direct Ethernet connections. Thank you.

More details would be needed.
1. what router do you have?
2. are you looking for a hardwired connection back to the primary router or a wireless connection?
3. Are you looking for AC, AX, or what generation of wireless?
4. Whats the end goal? Just a little extra coverage and not worried about latency? Or want a faster/lower latency
Without knowing more, its tough to recommend. For and AC generation, I like the EX8000 because of its dedicated backhaul and ports. It can be picked up used for pretty cheap.
The EAX80 or EAX20 is about your main AX generation for its ports.

Hello and thank you for your response. Both the Modem and the Router have the provider's name on them SPECTRUM. As for wired or wireless connection between the existing router and the new device, I need it to be wireless as I do not have an additional cable going between the existing router on the first floor and the second floor. As for speed and latency, I'm really just looking for the extra coverage, however faster/lower latency is a bonus I wouldn't mind.
I purchased the AX1800 WiFi Router (R6700AX) for my brother this past November I was amazed how simple it was to set it up as an extension of his home network out to a barn. Less than $100, great price.... I am thinking this might be a good solution for my home and my father-in-law's home. Just want some expert advice. Many thanks for your help.

Most routers don't have an extender mode or WISP mode. so using a router as a wifi extender if its not wired in, won't work.
what spectrum devices do you have?
