All Orbi MESH systems come with a router and satelltes. You can I believe purchase separarate router and satellites. However know this, the satellittes can only be connected to Orbi routers. They can not be connected to non Orbi router systems. And there is Orbi compatibility requirements as well:

If you already have a wireless router, then you should look into EAX series wifi extenders to help with additional WiFi coverage.

Thank you for the information about the capability issues with the Orbi router / satellites. After discussion, the intent in the first place was to just extend the router we have, Nighthawk RAXE500. We will keep the PS's hardwired, but with all the other equipment needing wi-fi, that is where the extenders would come into play. Do you have any recommendations for a system that would extend the Nighthawk? Your help is greatly appreciated for this non-techie person.

Though the EAX80 doesn't have 6Ghz, I'd check out a EAX80 wifi extender if your just wanting to extend some of the wireless.

Would you happen to know how many ports the Orbi router has? We would need at least 4 ports if we were to go the Orbi way.
