Thanks for the quick feedback.
I ran some tests. I think my roaming laptop doesn't jump from router to access point when they have the same SSID because the roaming laptop is still locked onto the router when I move into AP territory.
Interestingly enough, when the AP is named differently I can manually switch from the router to the AP network ('hoping') without my laptop missing a beat during various tests such as streaming video tests.
It kind of acts as if it never actually disconnects from one SSID to the other.
