WN3000RP Won't Finish Wizard

I tried in another wireless network with a netopia 7000. And it worked.
With the netgear router the following happens:
the device does not appear in the attached devices. The default gateway is set to 192.168.1.100 and the WN3000RP's IP address is set to 192.168.1.250. That happens regardless to what IP address the router is set to. I even tried setting the router to 192.168.1.100, so the address corresponds. No luck there either. Long story short:
What can I do with my WNDR3300 to get the WN3000RP to work? It obviously is a problem with the router. Again: the firmware is up to date. There also is no MAC filter, there is no other limitation.
