The response was "your firmware is up to date".
The WN3000RPv3 is so old (2015 but originally from 2011) that it may predate the reliable update check, especially if the firmware is a long way out of date.
Manual updates are safer and more reliable:

The article suggested refers to updating firmware on a Netgear Router rather than updating firmware on a wifi range extender. Is the procedure exactly the same?

Yes.
Manuals are always a good place to start.
Visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
That page will also have any software, firmware and drivers for your device, if they exist.
Look for the model number on the label on the device.
Check the section in the manual on updating the firmware.- PD22Apr 04, 2022Aspirant
Thanks for your reply but I'm going to have to back up a bit. First of all my extender is working correctly and I don't want to change that by installing a firmware update, so I am being a bit cautious..I did start out just trying to update to the latest firmware but despite having the device manual I ran into problems right at the start. I typed the correct address into my chrome browser and received the message "you are not connected to your extender's wifi network" I also tried what was listed as the extenders default IP address 192.168.1.250 and the response was "404 not found" Sometime later I logged into my Arris Surfboard SVG2482AC gateway with Xfinity as the internet provider. Its Xfinity default LAN IP address is 10.0.0.1. The gateway lists the devices connected to the network and it indicated the extender IPV4 address as 10.0.0.38. Using this I was able to get to the extender setup page. I filled out the email, password etc and pressing NEXT took me to the Login page and I thought I was OK. However the next time I used 10.0.0.38 it again took me to the setup page which I filled out again and pressing NEXT indicated "sorry your timestamp is expired. Please click the menu to re-enter the page". "OK" just took me back to the setup page. Any help you can give me to be able to connect to my extender would be greatly appreciated.
