Solved the problem. Got the WAP talking to the router w/ DHCP rather than static addresses, then had to reconfigure some "secret menu" stuff on the printer (complements of my local copier company technician).
For the record, never did get the old Linksys WAP to play nice with the WNR2000, but the WN604 finally did. Wow, what a learning curve over the past two days!
