WN604/N150 and WNDR4000

Ok, I am probably a complete idiot and way off base here, but I have a Netgear Router, WNDR4000. I wanted to have a wireless switch to plug my Blu-Ray and DirecTV into so they would have access to the router, so I bought a "Wireless N150 Access Point WN604" thinking this would solve my problems. But, I can't seem to get the thing to install/set up correctly. When I plug it in, the Wi-Fi light comes on very intermittently, but will not stay on. If I go to 192.168.0.100 as it says in the set up book (I also tried 192.168.0.230, which I found in the on-line manual) it does not connect to anything. I plugged the access point into my computer via ethernet as instructed. Any help would be appreciated - even if it is just to tell me that what I am trying is not possible....or what product I should by to do what I want. Thanks much! Oh, I am running Windows Vista, in case that matters.

  • I also have an installation problem, but mine is more basic. My WN604/N150 access point included a Resource CD v1.0. The Netgear "start here" booklet, smart wizard setup says to; insert the CD, choose the language, click "Setup" and follow the prompts. The problem is that my CD does not give me the option to click "Setup" after choosing English as my language. The installation guide talks about changing TCP/IP settings but I am lost at that point.
  • You have to setup static IP first before you can access the AP devices
  • I have set my computer to static IP of
    192.168.0.210
    subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 192.168.0.1
    Preferred DNS to 192.168.0.1
    Secondary to 192.168.0.2

If there are any other settings to change, or these are wrong, please let me know. Because, it still isn't working right. Am I supposed to change the whole network to Static IP? If so, how? I didn't see anything within the router settings to do so.
