WN802Tv2 and WDS

Hello everybody,

i recently bought a WN802Tv2 ap and I need to setup an extended network using WDS feature. I'm going to bought the second ap but I'd want to ask something before doing that.

I'd want to cover two big apartments putting 1 AP in the middle of the first one and the other AP in the middle of the second one. The apartments are big enough and I have a wired connections beetween them.

Is it possible to connect the two APs using the ethernet port? I'd want to keep my internet connection (downloads) when I move from the first to the second apartment, so the SSID should be the same and my laptop should connect to the nearest AP without disconnect. Obviously on the wired network there will be a DHCP and a router.

I NEED to use the WPA2 authentication.

Can I? Is the WN802Tv2 the right product for me?

  • WDS does not use WPA2. It constantly changes the key with each other.

  • I find a lot of contraddictory sentences about it...

How is possible that apple supports it and other manufactory does not?

On this forum too... somebody says it possible to use WDS in WPA mode. Do not tell me to use WEP with mac filtering... it is easly spoofed....

  • WDS basic is to use WEP or no security. This not netgear issues 802.11 protocol still design that way.

ONLY few model does support WPA but believe WG models access point and randomly 1 or 2 wireless router.
