OK, Appletalk is a bit old, but it is just and option in the firmware compilation and programmers work. I mean, with no effort you could support this protocol. It is just a protocol.
Why is it 'erased' from the world?
Thousands of printers (also industrial ones) are based on this protocol!!!!
Netgear was one of the few router brands which supported this protocol five or six years ago.
It is a shame. Everything is too modern.... Appletalk was a good protocol.
