WNDR3700 with DGN2200

Hi All,

I'm having tremendous difficulty setting up a WiFi access point on my existing network.

I recently upgraded my Wifi Router to a WNDR3700 (N600) and everything works well. I have patch reception in a bedroom and wanted to wire up my old router DGN2200 (N300) as a Wifi Access point.

I've tried all the suggestions on the forums and I've also tried using dd-wrt firmware and nothing seems to work.

* I deactivate DHCP on the N300.
* I assign the N300 to a fixed IP outside DHCP range on the main router (192.168.0.2)
* I assign DNS and Gateway on the N300 to the main router (192.168.0.1)
* The main router DHCP pool is set from 192.168.0.3-192.168.0.254
* The N300 is connected to the N600 via standard ethernet via a standard port (i.e. not the WAN port).
* The N300 is serving WIFI on a different SSID to the main router.

What happens is that for a moment or two, the N300 is registered on the N600 at the correct IP and works great serving network and fetching DHCP addresses and everything works flawlessly.

Within a few minutes though, DHCP requests will fail on the N300 and internet connectivity is lost, even if one sets the IP address manually. At this stage, the N300 no longer shows up on the N600 as a registered host and I have to reboot both routers to get it back again..... and again within 5 minutes it will fail.

Exactly the same thing was happening via factory netgear firmware and dd-wrt firmware.

I know that the N300 is designed as a cable modem, but I figured I should still be able to get it to act as an access point.

I've tried disabling NAT and UPNP and firewalls etc on both routers, but nothing seems to resolve this issue.

I don't want to set up wireless repeating, as I figure that uses WEP which isn't awfully secure and sounds a little unreliable.

Any help or advice appreciated. This worked fine with my previous modems.

Thanks,

Anton
