WNHDE111 powers down after 1 or 2 days

I have a recurring problem of my WNHDE111 Access Point powering down or not working after running for 1 or 2 days. The LED light will turn off, and if I unplug and plug the power cable back in, then it will function correctly for about 1-2 days again.

I am running in 5GHz mode only.

Setup:
Router = D-Link DI-624 (connects to WNHDE111)
Security on WNHDE111 is WPA-personal

I have tried 3 different power supplies. Two from Netgear, and one a 12V notebook power brick, so it is not the power supply.

I have also tried two different WNHDE111 devices, and they both will power off after awhile. So I am not so sure it is hardware related.

Firmware V 1.2.7_1.0.1

I have a WNHDE111 configured as bridge that is connected to another device (TIVO), that bridge works flawlessly. But my WNHDE111 as an AP that connects to my router will always power off, and it is annoying to always have to go and unplug and then plug the power in.

It seems something is causing the WNHDE111 AP to go into a power down mode or lockup, and it needs to be reset by forcing a power cycle. Since I have this problem with two different WNHDE111 devices, I suspect it is something related to the firmware of the WNHDE111 and my system setup or router causing the WNHDE111 to misbehave. Or I am just unlucky and got two defective units.

Any suggestions to try? I have opened up the case on one of the units, so I can probe any pads, test points, or pins to further debug, with a meter or scope.

Thanks in advance.

  • you may want to contact support at my.netgear.com

    you may have failing hardware if you tried multiple power supply.
  • I tried two different WNHDE111 units, and three different power supplies, and still have the issue with it powering down.

    I did discover one thing, if I disable auto channel scan, the access point will be up for a lot longer period, it seemed to last a week. But when I enable auto channel scan, it will only last about 1 day.

    Could I have a defective bridge unit that somehow causes the access point to power down? I never tried changing that out, as it always seems to work, I have never had to reset it.
