X6S Extender - as a wired extender

Does anyone know if it is possible to have the Nighthawk X6S Tri-Band WiFi Range Extender (ex8000) used as a wired extender to an existing wireless network with the same SSID. I have a Netgear Nighthawk x10 router. I wanted to use the extender in my basement where I have cables that run back to my router. I tried setting up in AP mode as well as extender mode and I'm having a very difficult time getting it work. Any suggestions before I send this overpriced thing back?
