You have 2 routers running in router mode? The isp and the R6400?
that'll cause a double nat

You can try running the netgear in AP (access point) mode. that disables the routing functions and leaves the isp device in control of that.

Thanks. The article doesn't mention anything about a reduction in speed. I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least a small reduction since adding more steps to a process is more then likely going to slow it down. But this is a huge reduction. Is that normal in this scenario?
I dont think I'll be able to set the ISP's modem to bridge mode - i don't have access to the interface and I dont think they can or will change it. Its part of a mesh wifi network for the whole building. I assume setting the router in my apartment to bridge mode would basically take it out of the mesh network. I'm sure it wouldn't cause any problems for anyone, but I'm also sure they wouldn't do it.
And if i set my router to bridge mode, that would basically make it pointless to even have it in the first place, wouldn't it? I wanted to have my own private network.
For now, I've left my PC wired into their router, and everything else, which is mostly tablets/tv's etc is on my network.
