AC1750 6400v2 Dual Band WiFi Router - unreliable 2.4Ghz connection
I've been using the Netgear AC1750 6400v2 dual band wifi router at home for about a year without issue. But recently, I cannot access the internet over the 2.4Ghz band. I have no issues connecting to...

Hi, thanks for asking the firmware version question. The router's firmware was not up-to-date; I had tried updating it via the Nighthawk app during WiFi network setup, but received a few error messages so skipped it at the time.
But given your question, I managed to upgrade the firmware 'manually' without the app. It's now running V1.0.4.128_10.0.104, which I believe is the latest.
Unfortunately, that didn't solve my issue: I can connect to the 2.5G WiFi network band, but I immediately ran into download rate issues.
I'm now going to try the next suggestion on this thread: manually setting a channel instead of relying on the auto feature.

What modem/ONT/gateway sits between the router and the Internet?

A gateway from Comcast/Xfinity. Picture attached.
You'll see a WiFi network listed on a sticker on the bottom of the device, but I'm pretty sure it's not active (or at least advertising) as I don't see the SSID when I look at WiFi options for connecting.

If it does wifi, then there will be a router component. That it inactive, or just turned off, does not mean that the router bit is not active.
Without a model number we are left guessing as to what it really is, but photos on Google look suspiciously like a modem/router, with a row of LAN ports.
No model number also makes it impossible to search for instructions on how to put it into bridge mode. I did find this:
Use Bridge Mode on your wireless gateway - Xfinity Support
Even without the wifi, the device can be getting in the way of the R6400v2.
Given its age. I wonder why you are using the Netgear router. The Xfinity box seems to be younger.

Hi again, and thanks for engaging on my issue.
So I logged into the Comcast gateway, and noticed that bridge mode is already enabled. I'm now recalling I configured the device in this way before (like a year ago).
To answer your question, I avoided using the Comcast device as our family router because when Comcast first gave me such a device (a unit before this one), it didn't have enough Ethernet ports to support all our data enabled devices in our media cabinet that required being hardwired (e.g., Bluray player). Years later, I have fewer devices (e.g., no Bluray player) and the Comcast devices has more Ethernet ports. So I suppose it's an option.
I'll note that I didn't have an issue with my prior Netgear router until I needed to reach farther into corners of our house (e.g., teenagers' rooms upstairs) and I just decided to upgrade when also purchasing extenders...thinking it would offer me better connectivity. Apparently a mistake.
I'll continue to evaluate the 'pick a specific channel' option suggested by another community member, and then consider relying on the Comcast device, which may be a newer model but arrived before I purchased a (then) new Netgear WiFi router.
