Why are you asking? You have hit a problem?

You should not have to change anything on the router.

If you have a phone that can use 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz – most do – it should pick the best be for the current circumstances.

You should know that the R6020 is pretty well the bottom of the Netgear range of routers.

It has none of the smart features that let you combine 5 GHz ans 2.4 GHz into a single SSID. So you will see two separate SSID names.

The phone should pick the most suitable, but you can also tell the phone, or other wifi device, to connect to either of these.

Also, according to Netgear's manual for this device, not always the most reliable source of information, the LAN and WAN ports support only 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. That makes it slower than many newer internet services and most modern network hardware. This may not matter to you, but be warned that it will hobble you if you ever sign up for faster Internet, anything faster than 100 Mbps is a waste of your money.

It also slows down whatever is going on in your local network. Newer devices support at least 1000BASE-TX. They are often also smarter in the wifi front.
