AP Mode R6220
I have an R6220 setup in AP mode connected to an R7000. Works fine. My question is does the CAT5 cable need to be connected all the time to the R6220 to reach back to the R7000 or can it be disconnec...

Something other than a wireless access point. Pretty much by
definition, a WAP is wire-connected to the main router.
There exist wireless network extenders which can use a wireless
connection to the main router. There are also Powerline devices which
can use existing power wiring to emulate a real Ethernet cable. Many
things are possible, but if you don't want to run a cable (or
equivalent), then you don't want a WAP.
You might try a Web search for terms like, say:
wireless network extender
