Bricked WNDR4500 can't TFTP

I've tried to follow these instructions https://kb.netgear.com/000064624/How-do-I-upload-firmware-to-my-NETGEAR-router-using-TFTP-on-Apple-macOS, but I keep repeating steps 7-10 to no avail. I get messages like "Transfer timed out." and "sendto: No route to host" and "sendto: Host is down".

I'm trying to `put WNDR4500-V1.0.1.46_1.0.76.chk`. I believe this is the right image. The article seems to imply my router's power light should go from solid amber to blinking amber, but it goes straight from solid amber to blinking green.

What am I missing? Is it totally bricked?

  • If the TFTP process is failing then router needs to be replaced.

TFTP is not the easiest move.Timing is the key.

Have you looked at any of the videos out there that guide you through what to do?

    For example:

    Different device, same approach.

It may be especially difficulty on an Mac. Less experience out there because not many people will have tried it.

Does your WNDR4500 have a V number in the model? If not, then it will be V1 and you have the right firmware.

You should know that the WNDR4500 is on the old side. It dates from 2013. Nedtwork technology has come a long way since then.
