Firmware for cable modems is beyond Netgear's control.
If your firmware is outdated, you cannot manually upgrade your cable modem’s or modem router’s firmware. You must contact your Internet service provider (ISP) to upgrade your firmware.

If you read it closely you will see that it tells you who has to change the firmware.
Up or down, it is the ISP.

Okay and when the ISP refuses? The end user who spent money on a product they cannot use is **bleep** out of luck because the manufacture refuses to provide various firmwares available for individuals use.
