If upgrading was the case... then yes, the ISP could help however I need to DOWNGRADE... as my post stated.

My answer has nothing to do with upgrading.
If you read it closely you will see that it tells you who has to change the firmware.
Up or down, it is the ISP.

Okay and when the ISP refuses? The end user who spent money on a product they cannot use is **bleep** out of luck because the manufacture refuses to provide various firmwares available for individuals use.

Please read what I wrote. Again.
It has nothing to do with what the manufacturer will or will not do.
It is what the ISPs will allow.
In the way of third party firmware for routers, there may well be ways of hacking these devices and forcing software on to them. Bt I habe bot seen them.
You can huff and puff all you like about Netgear's iniquities, there are plenty of things to complain about. By all means see what other modem makers will allow, but you will have a hard time finding one that gives you control over the firmware.
This is, of course, one reason why experienced users avoid modem/router combinations. They buy a modem and then add a grown up router, rather than something that the ISPs will put up with.

I HATE THIS COMPANY WITH A PASSION. Not only will I never buy another Netgear prduct, I will make sure that none of my friends ever buy one too. I hate this company so much that it gives me joy to know how many people I have taken from NETGEAR. Literally hundreds by now. Hundreds who will NEVER buy one of your garbage products with your garbage website. I weill save thousands from being your customers. I alone will end up costing you tens of thousands in lost income over the years, and that gives me JOY!
I will go out and celebrate when this company goes bankrupt. Which it will, anytime now, anytime.
