My first attempt to update the R6400 router firmware from V1.0.1.6_1.0.4 to R6400-V1.0.1.24 failed with the result: "Incorrect version." Is R6400-V1.0.1.24 a cumulative update containing all previou...

After the firmware update failed last night, I wanted to make sure that it was ok to install v1.0.1.24 on top of 1.0.1.6. With that assurance, I repeated the update procedure today and it worked.
Thanks.

There's 2 versions of this router. A v1 router will just have the router model - R6400. A v2 router will have v2 in the model number: R6400V2. Check the bottom of your router to see what version you have. Download the firmware to your desktop / laptop and upgrade..

I am confused by your statement. Logging in to the R6400 > Advanced > Administration > Router Status, I see thet following:
Hardware Version: R6400
Firmware Version: V1.0.1.6_1.0.4- michaelkenwardJun 24, 2017Guru - Experienced User
Looking at the links I provided, there is a V1.0.1.6, without the extra bit, for the R6400.
If you can see that information in the browser, you can tell the router to update itself. (Details in the manual on the page I linked to.) It should offer you the latest firmware that your current firmware will accept.
With luck you can skip the last five versions.
