[I can connect tablet/smart phone using wi fi.]
[Firmware needs updating. Tried to do so by logging into router but page could not be found.]
Is there a wired computer on the network?
That's the one to use to log into the router and update the firmware not a wireless device as you could make your router a door stop.
Log into 192.168.1.1 using a web browser and enter your users name and password when asked.
If all works allright you can do what need to router.
You will the version number of your router to get the right firmware for it.
The wndr3400v1 has a blue plastic doom over a led ring that lights up and flash when the wifi is in use.
The version number should be on the label on the buttom of the router.
The version one router does not how ever they change doom color on each version.

I am using a hard wired PC to try and update.
Model is a version1.
When I try accessing http://www.routerlogin.net.and also going through "genie" to update it comes up with the attached message on web.
